Woman Of Color

by Douglas Moore, Jr.

A woman of color
She could be black or latina
Twist or long hair
It really does not matter
Cuz she steals my heart away
Sets it on fire
By fulfilling my
Mental and physical desires
In my time of need
Day after day
With her unique beauty
That stands out to me
In so many ways
Cuz she loves me like no other

She is intelligent and elegant
All at the same time
Her mind
Shines so brightly
Because it is so deep
That she can speak on
The world’s most serious issues
To her views on the newest poem
By Maya Angelou
And that knocks me
Off of my feet
Reminding me
A woman of color
Loves me like no other

She’s a mentally strong woman
Who looks adversity
Dead in the eye
Overcomes the struggle
When things seem too tough
Still finds the time
To eliminate my hurt
When things are at their worst
By staying around
Turning my frown upside down
Cuz she loves me like no other
And I realize her love
Is more precious
Than any diamond or pearl
That I could ever find in this world
