Afrikan Gods: Cultural Connections Through Verbally Painted Watercolor Images

by Deidra Suwanee Dees

I watched the golden moon
drip, drip, drip
until she fell into Safari River;

long-armed oaks
watched the shiny moon
smile
as she hid among the ripples,

an old savannah wind blew
a gentle beat of
rhythm
to her playful mischief,

I watched the Afrikan gods
dance
before the stars

just like they danced before
my grandmothers
a thousand years before
