Grandma Dance

by Brother De Buff

Drums of passion
Olatunll song
beat on skins of Africa
reach the soul
way down in ancestor
dance of soul
going way back
grandma
swaying to beat
i saw movement of limbs
proud woman of Africa
grand elder of the motherland
deep in her soul drums
reach
just magic of people who we be
grandma ninety years old
Africa's root alive
deep in the soul
grandma moving to
gin-go-lo-BA do that dance
from before our bondage
long ago when these shore
were far away from African home
after crossing the water
at end of the journey
drum were stolen away
dance were forbidden
our soul remain strong
hand clap in beat
want to go home
heart has the inner drum
our past from ancestor
will not be touch
no chain can erase
grandma remember
the body movement of long ago
grandpa would have joy
looking at grandma strong
African coming to America
with the of passion in our soul
of forever drums to endurance
our elder of Africa
is why black people stand tall
