Self Purpose

by C. N. Young

To look into one’s eyes
See the pain so clearly.
To recognize that I belong here.
That I won’t fear the constant shadow watching over me.
I won’t sink so low that I’d drown.
I will take disappointments and try not to frown.
And ignore those who act like clowns.
Recognize that I belong here.
Society looks up at me
and swipes their frowns into smiles.
                        Recognize that I belong here.
Shade tears for those lost souls.
A moment of silence to remember those.
                        Recognize that I belong here
to watch over all those who lose the trail of the path.
Recognize that I belong here.
