Full On Empty

mama said the quickest way to a man's heart
was through his stomach
so I would make him
many-course meals
in hopes that he would
find me as appetizing as the
plates I placed before him
but half the time,
I don't think he even knew what the dishes were
And he Never told me that my garnishes were pretty.
But I kept the pots boiling
and the food coming
cause I figured
his full stomach would have to lead
to a full heart for me
but he just complained of heart-burn
he said the food was too spicy
the plates were too fancy
the meals were too complicated
and since he was just a "simple" man
he couldn't appreciate anything he didn't understand
so, realizing he must like his women
like his food
I gave him a paper plate
with a tv dinner
and LEFT
because it dawned on me
that trying to get to his heart through his stomach
just left me
with a fat man and a starved soul
