A Working Woman's Prayer

by Cherie Mcilwain

As I lay down to go to sleep
I welcome the calm I welcome the peace
I have made it through another day
I spoke my mind I had my say
I washed my body I combed my hair
I brushed my teeth and put on underwear
I helped my son with his bath
Later I would help him with his math
I went to work I did my job
I made it through the subway mobs
I cooked dinner and it was nice
I tried to be a good mother and wife
I washed my clothes I cleaned my house
I had a nice conversation with my spouse
I walked my son up to his bed
I said goodnite you sleepyhead
I sure had a busy day and I thank god
Because I like it that way
As I lay down to go to sleep
I welcome the calm I welcome the peace
