Hue

by Charles Fox Jr.

Black as night, tar encrusted, mammy-faced buffoon
Yellow as the sun, white washed, European coon
Malignant minstrel show of a darker variety
Demonstrative bright demons, a cancer on society
Picaninnys, sambo’s, mammies delight
Redbones living in the big house, much to their delight
You so black you purple!
You so light you clear!
You are the anti-personification of everything we hold dear.
Your skin is like charcoal
I want you to hate yourself
You so light…..can I see you when the lights come on?
Nigger you so dark…can I see you when the lights go off?
My soul cries for victimized ears
Raped of self-pride,
Living on the external
Yet dying inside.
