I Imagine

by Cindy Chaffold

One person’s words
May be reality
But I write from the top
Of my head

I may be writing about you
Or what I just read
Or what I hope to be
Maybe what I hope to see

In this world or the next
Sometimes I write
A feeling expressed
From something overheard

I write fiction
To fantasy
Comedy
And sadness

I can’t put a box around it
I don’t want to confine it
I don’t want it dissected
As if it was an unusual bug

I write to the release
I write to paint joy
I write for the appraisal of peers
I write for me

I write to heal you
I write to tell you
I write to dream of better days
For you or me

I give blue skies
I give dreams
I give hope
On request

Not always do I write
Me
Not always to I write
You

But I write
Words stringing together
Like fine pearls
Sometimes with a stone included

I write for the beauty
Of a smile
I paint pictures
Of stories from my mind

But basically
I write
Because I like to
I just do.
