Home Alone

by Cindy Chaffold

After seeing a homeless family
Dad, mom and small girl child
Hugging to dispel the cold
But still smiling

I wondered who was the most
Fortunate
Me
With my job, house and things

Them with nothing
But each other
Clinging to life
On the street

My heart feeling the chill of alone
Wanted to reach out to the comforting
They gave to each other
With smiles

Their closeness apparent
Hand holding
A little smudged face beheld parents
With eyes glowing

And I had to wonder
Who is the most fortunate
Homeless together
Or home alone
