My Love Life as a Rhyme

by Erika Burt

My love life as a rhyme

    Would have complicated lines

    That in time would

    Manifest the thoughts under arrest

    Struggling for expression

    Showing images within sighs

Like Tyra, smiling with my eyes

Having you wondering how you are

    Stuck off the impression

    Spitting Metaphors like

    I am a jammed door

    Or maybe even more

One with boxes stacked on the other side

Filled with "who are yous" and "what you ons"

    In a straight Chicago tone

Because you are pretty well unknown

    Around these parts

But that is what intrigues me and breeds

Curiosity because water seeks its own level

And you got me all disheveled and yet

I revel in the time we spend together
