I looked towards the back of the bus
(I always sit in the front seeing how hard
Folks fought for that)
And from the time our eyes lock
We know each other
It's the silent hug
We give one another, cause we family
And in a crowd of others
Your nod
My smile
Our "Hey sis" or "Whassup Bruh?"
Our strong black fists
Slightly raised
Welcomes one another into the places
That Mommas built when
God allowed them to give birth
To beautiful Africans
And though you moved North or West
And we stayed South or moved East
At all four corners
On the bus or wherever I see you
I give you a big strong smile
Maybe the silent hug
Cause you and me
