Words Do Not Express Themselves

by Erika Catiz

Words do not express themselves
They set a barricade in my throat
They cling onto cells
And disagree with vocal notes

They grow hot in my stomach
Make bubbles in my lungs
Do somersaults in my chest
Swell like bells being rung

They cause my ears to pop
Make my lips start to twitch
Jump unruly in my heart
As they struggle to find their niche

Words do not express themselves
They are lodged into my ckeeks
Run swiftly across my tongue
And won't allow me to speak

They spin my insides like a web
Strong arm mental telepathy
I wish they were colorful letters
I would open my mouth and let you see

They cause my face to blush
Then right back down they sail
So I wait for you to speak
And let facial expressions tell
