Runaway Summer

by Sharon Thomas Cash

She tried to hold on but alas Summer has fled
Chased away by fall leaves dancing thru her head
Orange reds and yellows camouflaged the green
Dying leaves kiss the ground floating from the trees
The wild wind blows fiercely thru the bright sunshine
Crisp chilly breezes brush past her face and mine
Pumpkin patches and apple orchards show forth their bounty
Squirrels gather falling nuts as flocks of birds flee the county
Summer has retired she has packed away her things
She promises to return after the spectacular show called Spring
