Memories are pieces of our lives
the year to year photos signify
the past, present and the future.
As we grow older those memories are
vivid in our minds overshadowing all
the past indiscretions and bringing
about an evolution of change.
Like our ancestors we are still
fighting to be free in a country
known as "The land of the free-and
the home of the brave," but to no
avail we as black people have succumbed
to the ways of life that has left us
depressed, oppressed and suppressed.
Over the span of 300 years we have been
subjected to:
Lynchings
beatings
castrations
Jim Crow
40 acres and a mule
and we survived because we are an
artistically esteemed people and an
influential force in American life.
We are people of beauty with a strong
heritage surpassing all the heartaches
and pain we have endured because of the
color of our skin,
Black people lets not be ostrasized any
longer we are a people of worth, a people
of humility and intelligence.
Let the memories be our pictures of
success living as one entity.
