Sister

by Carlos F. Carter

sister,
your makeup is running
forming dark mascara rivers silently creeping from your eyes
touring the contours of your face
with tears of goodbyes
looking for a place to hide
from the pain you feel inside
your soul

sister,
your handkerchief has fallen
as you hear once again the callin
of your deserted lonely heart
as it cries from within
givin in to a private maddness
which brings you to this saddness
you now behold

sister,
oh, how i miss you so
but it was not my choice for me to go
oh, if you only knew
of how much i miss you too
my life may be done but the battle is won
so, take comfort in your heart
for me and you will never part

dear sister,
your hat is about to fall
the pins that held it in place
seem to have left without a trace
like me i see
taken with sudden suprise
like the tears that fall from your eyes
sister,
your makeup running
