Mrs. Walker Can't Say

by Carlos F. Carter

Mrs. Walker can't say whats aching on her mind,
for she woke up to find a note left this time,
that read;

"I'm sorry, things are over, please forgive me I can't stay.
Take good care of the boy, i'm sure you'll know what to say,
but please do it quickly and don't delay."

sincerely,
Mr. Walker

Mrs. Walker sighs and says "What in the world should i do,
it's the end of the day and it's still no you,
should i comb the earth to try and find you,
or forget you ever existed and start life anew
for I know that we're through and so is this too,
you left this house with so many things left to do,
important things that I depend on you."

Mrs. Walker stops at the end of the stairs
and sits in a chair
and wrings her hands
and try to understand
the note Mr. Walker wrote to she,
then she heads to the kitchen to make us some tea
and hides the note she hope I will never see.
She hopes the hiding will make it easier for me,
perhaps it's easier to forget what you'll never see.
I ask, "May i have some cookies along with my tea?",
"Yes!", Mrs Walker said, "now g'wan now and sit silent for me,
I have much things to think about and much to set free."
I wonder, what is this she's tellin me?,
"sit in silence, much to set free".
I guess from the note that i found before she,
then placed it back down before she could see
That her husband has gone and my dad has left me.
Oh Mrs. Walker we'll both have to be...
strong
