Helpless In The Ghetto

by Nichole Burroughs

Helpless In The ghetto a mother cries.
For she has taken on a journey unprepared for the ride.
Her weight feels so heavy from addiction she's carrying,
she doesn't know the changes of her surviving are steadily varying.
She has messed up completely has shamed everyone she loves,
yet she wonders why on her children's faces she sees traces of an unbearable grudge.
Help! Help! she cries out from the lost.
For I know now where I went wrong I'm done paying the cost.
Get away from me devil let go I mean that,
watch all the pieces of life you took from me be suddenly bought back.
Helpless In The ghetto a mother no longer cries
for she has won her battle and regained her pride.
