If Only People Could See Me

by Darrell Brevard

If only people could see me,
For whom I am or whom I am to be.
Not because the color of my skin,
Then truly I will be free.
I am just like you,
Fearing only my true God.
The color of my blood,
The beating of my heart.
I don’t want to be noticed,
Only to blend into the crowd.
Raise my child,
And everyday make my God smile.
Look at me,
And I pray you listen to what I have to say.
Remove you prejudices,
And tomorrow will be a better day.
Appreciate my differences,
We are all apart of the world rainbow.
See me as a man,
That is spiritually trying to grow.
All I ask in each and every way,
If only you could see me not my skin.
Then this racism mess,
Will all but end
