Why did you have to go
And hurt me like that?
Why did you make me feel so special
Just to get my heart broken?
Why did you do this to me?

It’s been a few years since we last talked
And now you’re back into my life
And now you’re telling me you want me
Telling me you want to be my wife
But why’d you take so long to come back?

Why would you promise to love me,
And then leave me without saying goodbye?
What did you think, that I would let you
Just waltz right back into my life
Just because you want me now?

I guess you might think I’m all game,
But I lost my emotions when you went away
I might have fallen and hit the ground harder,
And it does hurt to tell you this,
But I can’t get hurt again

Why did you have to leave and return
Just when I was getting my life back together?
Why did you look at me with those eyes
And seduce me with your smile
When you had never intended them to be mine?

Why did you ask me to write poetry
That I would find in another’s hands?
Why would you say you love me when you didn’t mean a thing?
And you wonder why I won’t take you back 
Just because you want me now
