When You Say Goodbye

by Bradford J. Howard

When you say goodbye,
you look deep into her eyes
And you hold her in your arms
You wonder if she feels the same

When you say goodbye,
you try so hard not to cry
But tears well up in your eyes
You miss her before she even leaves

Fingers in her hair,
her perfume in the air
She smiles and you want to,
but it never comes

Waterfalls down your face
Feelings nothing can erase
You kiss her so gently
You wish that she would stay

She gets on the bus
and you wave back to her
And you can only break down
when you say goodbye
