Man or Male?!

by Nate Booker

I might not be the right person to say this, but I felt it should be said,
I felt the need to spell it out and to finally clear my head.
Just because you stand when you pee, it only means you’re male,
And it doesn’t make you an ounce of a man just because you went to jail.

She’s not your ‘Baby Momma’ though she had your child, it’s true,
But where were you when she needed you most?
It seems the child is YOU!

So you call yourself a man, well let me ask you some basic questions:
Who did you raise? Who have you taught? What do you value enough to have fought?
What have you read? Who do you love? Do you love them enough to try?
Does that love transcend the physical aspects? Do you love them enough to die?
And, if you love them enough to die, do you love them enough to LIVE?

So you say that you’re a man…
Is that all you do is talk?
Well, it’s really easy to talk the talk but can you walk the walk?

You say that you like women?! These days, that doesn’t even mean you’re a male…
You’ll never get to know her Beautiful mind, with yours on her behind!

So many women are standing up, they’re raising your kids despite your drama,
they’ve stepped up, stepped out and keep on stepping, while you’re living with your momma!
Now I’m not passing judgement, as I weave this little story,
For there are males who are truly men, and to Jah they give the glory.

They’re my brothers and friends and respected family heads,
they may not agree with my every word, but they’ll agree that the truth was said.

Our Sisters are waiting for us,
They WANT us to take the lead,
You may not be the male a sister wants but you can BE the man she needs.
This is not a test, although there is a Pass or Fail…
Are you ready to Rise and be a Man?
Or are you content just being… Male?
