Rise Brother Rise

by Birdie Houston

Rise brother rise
Though your names
Been drug through mud
Courage revoked
Restricted by chains
Intelligence trampled
Mamed and shamed
Rise brother rise

Rise Mother rise
Tunnels darkness behind you
Though start feels like end
Mold paths for our young exemplifying
There's beauty in their name
Beauty in their face
Beauty in kinky, curly or
Wavey textured hair
Lavished beauty
Blossoms triumphantly within their culture
Heritage and ancestry
Sound your legends
Rise Mother rise

Rise Father rise
Show strength doesn't exist
In bottles of alchol
Teach all ages
Dignity doesn't come
In any type of pills misued
Behind histories curtain
Men of our past
Stripped from families
Deprived from freedom
Deprived from speech
Opinionated voices seldom heard
Or you'd be sure
To hear devastating moans, groans
Cries under thrashing, bloody lashing whips

Rise Sister rise
Sacrifice
Conquer wounded minds
Find lost souls
Mend wounded spirits
Have patience,endurance and faith
Comfort the lonely,the homeless
Help your Mother,Father
Neighbor, relatives, friends
Your beloved
In righteous way
Multiply thy fruits
Help yourself
Forever remain
Steadfast and strong

Rise ...keep rising....!

Though our spirits been drug
