In The Cleft Of The Rock

by Alyce

dedicated to R. Lamont Wynn,
father of my children

I have never been so touched
by your tenderness, as now
With eyes that have always
smiled for me, you let me read your heart

Sadly, yet with definite flecks of hope
spun in brilliant translucent hues
you painted your self-portrait

You are a man of sorrows from birth,
and you have even questioned God
In my memory, I can still hear
those long, seemingly
one-sided conversations

But you are a man of great
hope and even greater love....
blessed with so many good gifts
a strong mind and willing hands
You dare to be righteous in
an evil world

And your struggles have
served as a testimony that
all things are possible
You make me a believer
because of your enormous faith

I have never before understood
your beauty, as now
you are that single green
plant, proudly sprouting
thriving on the cleft of sheer rock
where no other life can grow...

You alone were chosen
to be right where you stand
showing God can do all things
