The Art Of Sharing

by Alena Harris

"I don't like to share," I said.
"Me neither," she said.
It came out of our mouths
and each wanted the other to believe it
but I believe we knew better
because we actually were sharing something.
Though it is never said it is just understood.
We are like children with a favorite toy.
A toy that gives hours of fun
and sometimes it doesn't work right
but we never throw the toy away.
We continue to share it.
From the outside looking in you may find it weird
that we have never had any problems sharing
or that we get along so well
but on the inside it is weird
but for some reason it just works.
We both know the rules of our sharing,
though they are never spoken.
We know how far we can go.
What can be said to the toy or done to the toy
and also what can be said to each other.
It's a fun game and it's nice to have a playmate
to share such a demanding toy.
