Patience

by Alena Harris

I have a little but not enough.
Short tempered, smart mouth.
When the absolute ridiculous is said.
I can’t stand it! I can’t stand it! I can’t stand it!
What exactly is wrong with us as a people?
We don’t listen.
We don’t take the extra effort.
We just kind of breeze through
Not always paying attention to what is around us.
Is it that hard to be aware of others?
To think about the other man before ourselves?
To actually think?
I don’t THINK so.
To think before we speak, before we act.
Have a little common courtesy.
I believe I already stated that.
Were you listening? Probably not.
Patience
I must have patience.
Because not everyone thinks the way I do.
Not everyone believes what I believe.
Not everyone listens but if you do, not everyone comprehends.
You get me? Do you understand?
Did you hear that I need patience?
Just so I can deal with people who I find flawed
and deal with those same flaws in myself.
