The Calm Before the Storm

by Alena Harris

The demons flew out of me ferociously before I knew it.
I couldn’t wrangle them back in.
They were ready to attack.
They had waited for the perfect moment.
Silently sitting in me only making small rumblings just to keep themselves ready.
Always waiting because they knew it was coming.
I could feel them becoming restless.
Moving around becoming more agitated.
Slowly they too over my voice.
I heard the increase in volume.
I could feel myself shaking as the demons worked their way to the top.
Then I was pulled back as they took over.
I watched the chaos the demons brought while trying to defend me.
The screaming, the clawing, the pushing and the pulling.
Then it ended and they returned feeling victorious.
Leaving me in control and unable to deal with what just happened.
Having to take responsibility for what they did, but not regretting it.
Feeling vindicated and not making any apologizes.
Only silently thanking my protectors for being there when I needed them.
