The ordinary perception of space and time
Falls mainly into the most familiar
Of common place motifs and such.
Again and again we are persuaded
Of being at the edge of another world.
In place of the familiar we confront the ultimate vision
Which no longer obtains in our mind.
We make a casual contact
With a rational world, transforming eternal structures
With our ancestors in continuous time
Almost to the limits of the material world
To pay homage to the elders
Who are more spirit than substance.
