When I Say I Love You

by Abbia Udofia

When I say I love you it is true
yet your musical silence in blue
places me in paradise and what angels do

with closed, facetious dreams in line
of doubling owls, souls deny refine
lace of hearts opening like petals divine

when I say I love you it is true,
unflagging light of love shines through
and brings pomegranates, delight
dreams and lights against doubt and fright

I love the summer sky, rain and spring;
birdsongs, brooks, sunrise and ring;
trees, seas, sunsets, the warm winter
and its night time fire

life would be less without any or all,
your beautiful and wonderful self and stall
make love and life genial and a great ball
