Crossroads

For Abby

Last time I thought we would discuss it
The blankness over fullness and light
The sins that drove beyond Golgotha

I knew not what decided us
But our hearts spoke the fire
Of desire and love and pledges
And the dreams beyond visions

Despite the distress and hunger
And the curses that taught us right
And the souls who brought light
To the dugouts of our miseries

What if the songs did not come
With flashes of angels as desired
I would not meet this protrusion
And the pains of its pleasure, surprise...

What comes after this testament
When love so speedily aborted
With heart dissected and perfected
Finds sand and grass inflated?

I have thrown up and broken
The chalice of our misgivings
I didn't deserve the feast, unfeasting
Meant for the palace or the pit

What can I say at the bloated
Crossroads of my indictment?
What have you to deliver or recover
But the poison dagger and fire
I crafted in your hands and soul?
